There are so many people being hurt right now between George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, the police officers that have been killed and seriously injured, and the business that are being looted and destroyed. I, personally, like giving to individuals instead of organizations just because I like to see my money actually helping someone. For those of you that feel the same way I’ve but together a list below of links to reputable GoFundMe accounts to help all of these people that need it. I included their pictures and stories to go along with the links to hopefully make it a little easier instead of having to click on each individual link.
While George Floyd did have a record he did not deserve to die and all four officers involved in his death have now been charged. He leaves behind a 6 year old daughter named Gianna. His GoFundMe has surpassed the goal of $1.5 million and is currently at $14 million. According to the description on the page all funds will go to the Floyd family.
Breonna was a 26 year old emergency room technician that had been on the front lines for the Covid fight. She was killed when police executed a no knock search warrant for her apartment thinking that drug dealers used her apartment to receive packages. Her boyfriend and the police exchanged fire and she was tragically killed in the process. They have raised $5.7 million of their $500,000 goal.
Police Officers Seriously Injured or Killed During the Riots
Officer Brewer has been in Atlanta Police Department for 18 years and was struck by a speeding ATV during the protests. He had to have emergency surgery and is recovering in the intensive care unit but they’re not sure if he’ll be able to return to work. Brewer has a wife and four children. They’ve raised $196,000 of his $210,000 goal.
Cody Holte besides being a police officer had served in the Army National Guard and in the military. He leaves behind a wife and a 10 month old son. They have raised $100,000 of their $104,000 goal.
2 protective security officers were ambushed while protecting the Ronald V. Dellums Federal Building. Dave Patrick Underwood was killed and the other officer is in serious condition. Half of the funds go to each man or their families. Underwood was a big supporter of Soulful Softball Sunday and donated to their organization. Soulful Softball Sunday gathered community members together annually and conducted charitable acts throughout the year. They have raised $152,000 of their $150,000 goal.
Officer Shay Mikalonis was in the process of trying to break up protestors when Edgar Samaniego walked up behind him and shot him in the head. Officer Mikalonis is still in critical condition after two surgeries. He is 29 years old and had been with the Las Vegas Police Department for 4 years. The link to his donation page is not a GoFundMe link, I’m not sure how much they’ve raised for him so far.
Danny is not a cop but he was driving to get dinner when he was shot in the head by a lawyer protesting at the rally. He is a single father of a little girl and a disabled veteran. Still in critical condition. They have raised $122,000 of their $150,000 goal.
One of my Instagram friends, Evgjenia Cela, had her mom’s salon destroyed in the riots. Her and her mother are immigrants from Greece. She is a mother of 4 and was already hurting, just like all of these businesses, because of the virus. They have raised $4,000 of her $5,000 goal.
KB Balla is a Minneapolis firefighter that had plans on opening his sports bar Scores as soon as he could due to the virus. Before he could open it, it was looted and burnt to the ground. He has a wife and 4 kids. They have raised $1.1 million of his $100,000 goal.
8 families lost their homes when this apartment building was burnt down. This specific GoFundMe is set up to help out anybody that lost their homes during the riots. They’ve raised $31,000 of their $30,000 goal.
This site has a link to a bunch of different GoFundMes of businesses in Minneapolis that have suffered during the riots. Rather than copy them all down here I thought I’d just give you a link to their page.
That’s all I’ve found currently but I will continue to update this page as I come across other GoFundMe pages. If you guys know of any other ones drop them in the comments and I’ll be sure to add them in.
